A Pomì project in Primary Schools

The values of the tomato supply chain and healthy eating in 300 classes in the provinces of Cremona, Mantua, Parma, and Piacenza

Pomì, a brand of Casalasco Società Agricola SPA, which has always promoted cultural and sports activities and initiatives in the region, has created the Free Educational Campaign "The Adventures of Pomì and Dori: The Tomato Supply Chain, Sustainability, and Healthy Eating" developed and managed by Neways, a communications company specializing in educational projects. This educational project is aimed at Schools in the provinces of Cremona, Mantua, Parma, and Piacenza, for the 2022-2023 school year and involves 300 classes for a total of 7,500 students aged 6 to 10.

The initiative aims to playfully introduce children to the world of healthy and sustainable eating, focusing on the tomato supply chain. The topics covered in the paper educational kit, intended for each of the classes participating in the initiative, are in line with Law 92/2019 which introduced the cross-curricular teaching ofCivic Education in Schools, which also includes the topic of the right to health and personal well-being and therefore Food Education: in particular, the specific characteristics of the tomato plant and its varieties, the 100% Italian supply chain and respect for the environment, and the central role of tomatoes in the Mediterranean Diet are explored.

Participants will receive kits containing: an educational booklet and corresponding verification sheet, twenty-five participation certificates, educational games for students and an educational poster to be displayed in the classroom or on the school bulletin board.

Finally, students, either with their teacher or individually, have the opportunity to participate in the Class Contest to be held in Spring 2023 and win wonderful prizes simply by creating an artistic piece. The class work must follow a pre-established guideline, using the project's key characters who accompany the children throughout the educational journey. It is expected that the group will create the journey of Pomì and Dori through all stages of the tomato production chain, from sowing to packaging delicious sauces.

Among all the works, many will be selected 8 winners considering the ability to reprocess learned content, relevance to the theme, and difficulty of execution, each selected class will be awarded a motor skills kit for the entire school.
