The Casalasco supply chain: a guarantee for Private Label and Co-Manufacturing

Know-how meets research in good agricultural practices

News

Casalasco can count on the first integrated tomato supply chain in Italy, the third in Europe, with a processing capacity of over 570,000 tons of tomatoes supplied by the 560 member farms, all located in the production areas of Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, and Piedmont.

The value of Casalasco's supply chain, however, goes beyond the numbers.
It represents a wealth of know-how that has its roots in the agricultural tradition of the region and continues with a constant focus on good agricultural practices guaranteed by our agronomic department.

An integrated supply chain

Even though the tomato season takes place over a few months, the work is year-round, with the preparation of the fields starting long before greenhouse sowing, when, in the heart of winter, the soil is analyzed and fertilized.

Casalasco works side-by-side with seed companies, ensuring strictly certified GMO-free tomato seeds and selecting varieties that meet farmers' needs, such as good productivity, plant health, and optimal sugar content of the tomatoes, and production requirements: color, consistency, strategic commercial factors such as the concentration of lycopene and the study of specific tomato varieties.

All of this while preserving biodiversity and thus soil fertility, through crop rotation and the creation of new ecological areas, such as tree belts or areas sown with plants suitable for pollinating insects.

From this perspective, improving the management of production factors through disease monitoring systems, biological control, andprecision agriculture.

Indeed, in an increasing percentage of fields, plant vigor is monitored using satellite systems and tractors equipped with sensors, while soil moisture levels are kept under control thanks to probes that allow for targeted intervention without water waste.

The water conservation is indeed another area where Casalasco employs micro-irrigation techniques that ensure plants receive the necessary water while minimizing waste.

The fertigation follows the same precise and optimized approach, applying fertilizers to seedlings locally and with such accuracy that waste is prevented.

Assurance for clients and partners

What does all this mean for those who choose Casalasco for the production of their private label products?

Casalasco's supply chain, integrated and controlled from seed to shelf, guarantees a constant and high-quality supply of tomatoes, which are supplied year after year by partner farms with whom Casalasco has a long-standing collaboration.

An added guarantee in times of increasing uncertainty.
