In 2020, despite the Covid emergency, the commitment of Consorzio Casalasco del Pomodoro to pursue sustainability goals never ceased. The company, which has been carefully and systematically working on environmental, social and fair economic distribution along the supply chain for years, presents its third Sustainability Report, prepared in collaboration with Deloitte, which highlights significant performance improvements in various areas.

In particular, the national supply chain has been further strengthened, with almost all purchases made from suppliers based in Italy, thereby supporting the local economy and reducing the environmental impact of transport through the qualification of the 71% of new suppliers with environmental criteria and 65% with social criteria.

Over the last three financial years, the indicators related to the natural resources used in the production process have shown improvement, primarily due to initiatives in energy efficiency and optimization of production capacity.

From a social perspective, during 2020, the company's average annual number of employees increased significantly, particularly during the tomato processing season, rising from 1,613 to 1,770, marking a significant 10% increase in employment, which involved primarily female staff.

The work-life balance policy (balancing private life, safety, and work) enabled the activation of remote connections for smart working employees during the lockdown period, totaling over 15,000 work hours, combined with agreements for part-time positions. Also during the year, there was further progressive implementation of social inclusion plans.

Furthermore, the report highlights the 40 fully completed projects in the area of research and development on new product types, formulations and studies on low environmental impact packaging, also thanks to collaborations with accredited external institutions and the academic world.

The economic value generated and distributed among the various stakeholders of the Consortium in 2020 was 308 million euros, a 10% increase compared to the previous year, producing and distributing over half a billion packages on the international market over half a billion packages of finished product.
